Iron Bird January Visit

This was our first trip to Iron Bird, we’re trying to get to all of the breweries that we didn’t make it to last year, but I can tell you I don’t think it’ll be our last. They had some darn good beer, and we didn’t get a chance to try any of the food there.

Brown Badger ESB – ABV 6.2%, IBU 35. This was a really tasty beer. Nice malty flavor, just the right bitterness, and with a lingering sweet malty finish. A great example of an ESB.

[Jesse] I arrived a little late for the meeting, so I dropped off my coat at the table and went up to the bar to order my first beer. As I returned, I asked Mike what he got: Brown Badger ESB. Dang it….I got that as well. Maybe we should coordinate a bit better to get a more diverse sampling of the brewery offerings in the future..? I’m glad we didn’t do that this week however, I really enjoyed this ESB. Like Mike wrote, it starts with a nice malty-ness and, of course, a bitter finish, but just the right amount. Very nice beer on a cool evening.

Cricket’s Lemons Citrus Pale Ale – ABV 6.6%, IBU 28. As the name implies, it had a distinct lemon flavor to it, nice citrus notes, and kind of juicy. The lemon flavor reminded me of one of those Leinenkugel Shanty beers, which I believe are mixed with lemonade. I have to say, I’m not a fan of those, but this one had much more of a beer backbone to it.

[Jesse] Pascals Treasure Belgian Tripel – ABV 9.3% 20 IBU – This is a collaborative brew between Iron Bird and Metric Brewing. After I ordered it, Mike reminded me that we both commented on this beers color the last time we were at Metric. It’s crystal clear. It’s striking how clear and golden this beer is. The best part is that the taste lives up to the color. Just looking at it, I was kind of expecting a krystalweisen or similar, but it started with a sweet, malty flavor and a very smooth finish. Delicious beer.
