FH Beerworks (East) December 2019 Visit

As much as I look forward to going to any of the breweries in town (as the all have their own special charm), I must say the FH Beerwork East location is one of my favorite venues. Being one of the newer locations, they really did an excellent job thinking out the construction to get a certain vibe.

The location is such a great spot for any time of year. Even though I haven’t taken advantage of it, the outdoor seating area looks to be perfect for the pleasant Colorado summer evening. On this visit, however, it was a cold December evening and the taproom was warm and inviting thanks to the centrally located fireplace. In fact, it was so warm, I was trying to find a place a bit removed from it so as not to overheat.

And one thing that can be counted on, no matter the time of year, is the delicious beer. The tap list was almost impressively lengthy and made choosing a challenge, but we were up for it and found some wonderful beer to enjoy by the fire.

We had a small party this evening with only Rob showing up as a surprise.

{Mike} – I had to skip out a little early this time around, which I doubly regretted because I missed out on some of the good beer and company, and because of the wonderful setting that Jesse mentioned. I really like the ambiance of FH East. I don’t know if it’s me or not, but I have been much more impressed with the beer at the East Location. I’m not sure if that’s because it seems to center around pale ales and IPAs most of the time, which they do a terrific job on, or if it’s just that the environment lends itself better to beer contemplation.

Norwegian Session IPA – 4.6% ABV 40 IBU – I don’t know if I has an IPA like this one before, but I think this should be a new thing. It starts malty ans sweet, but then the hops kick in. The striking thing is that the hops profile is citrusy and, at the same time, piney. It’s light, balanced and a session beerr making this a perfect
“lawnmower beer”

{Mike} I just wanted to chime in that this beer was delicious. I’ve been sitting on some kviek yeast, and I’m anxious to try it out now.

Pig Dog Bourbon Vanilla Porter – 6.8% ABV 22 IBU – This is a good example of a porter, malty and sweet start with a dry finish. The way this beer stands out from the crowd is, of course, the bourbon and vanilla flavors.

Neither of them overpower the other so they play off each other perfectly. They add a richness to the beer that I haven’t found in a porter before. I’d order a pint of this anytime.

Watermelon Gose – 4.5% ABV 5 IBU – I must have subconsciously been making up for all of the heavy, big beers I’ve been drinking lately. Another “sessionable”, light beer for me. But I don’t regret it at all.

I know I called the Norwegian IPA a “lawnmower beer”, but this one is a text book example of that. Very light and balanced, the hint of watermelon flavor makes this super refreshing.

Peach-O-Sour – 7.5% ABV – What? 7.5%? I wouldn’t have guessed it at all.

The beer was nicely tart, light fruit flavors, and really just excellent. I didn’t get much in the way of barrel character from it, but I was in a bit of a hurry, and I’m sure I didn’t give it quite the time it deserved.

Dry Hop Sour – 6% ABV – Another really nice sour beer. Again, it was lightly tart, but the hop character really came through.

The Aroma was piney and citrusy, and finished with those flavors as well. Really nice and refreshing when you combine the sourness and the hops, it was a pleasure tot he senses.
