Cerberus Brewing Co. September 2019 Visit

Fall is sneaking up on us and with it, colder weather. However, while the warm evenings are still with us, we wanted to make sure we made it to Cerberus to take advantage of their awesome outdoor seating area. We happened to pick the perfect evening to enjoy it and the weather was perfect. This week, we were joined by Bill and Scott.

The much earlier Sunset worked against us when it came to photography though, so you’ll have to forgive the super dark pictures. The weather, however, was decidedly on our side. It was a really nice night out, just cool enough to let you know that Fall is here, but not so cold that you needed a jacket, and perfect for hanging with friends and enjoying some beers.

We weren’t the only ones who thought it might be a good idea to sit outside at Cerberus, there were a number of fellow Colorado Springs residents out and about. We’re used to having a bit of trouble getting seating inside, but the outside area usually has plenty of seating available, this time we were lucky to grab the only table available outside.

Hell Froze Over – 5% 9 IBU – I quite enjoyed this beer. It’s a sour, but it really was more tart for me than sour. I could really get the strawberry aroma. The berry came through in the flavor as well and provided the tartness. The sour/tart flavor didn’t build up over the course of a pint so it didn’t overwhelm the palate. Actually, by the bottom of the pint, I was really only getting a nice strawberry flavor. It actually really reminded me of Strawberry Quik.

[Mike] – I had a sip of this, and decided to go ahead and get a full pint. I have to agree with everything Jesse said, and it kind of reminded me of Kool aid with milk sugar. I have to guess that there was a fair amount of lactose in it, because by the end of the pint I was feeling pretty full.

Perpetual Cycle Pils – 5% 33 IBU – I have to admit that pilsners are not my favorite style of beer, but one of the goals Mike and I had when we started this blog was to expand our horizons and try some beer that we might not normally try. So, with that in mind I thought I’d give this one a try. I figured that Cerberus would have an excellent representation of the style. I don’t think I figured wrong. The picture doesn’t do it justice, but it was a gorgeous glass of brew. Straw colored and crystal clear. The flavor was light, clean and had a bitterness at the finish that lingered for some time. While this pils may not have made me a convert for life, it went a long way in making me more open to trying more. Not to mention giving me a great baseline against which I can measure the ones in my future.

Johnny Marrzen

[Mike]
Johnny Marrzen – Marzen – With it being the time of year for Oktoberfest, of course our local breweries are rolling out their takes on Oktoberfest, Marzens, and Festbiers, and I am more than happy to sample them 🙂

This was well worth the investment, lightly malty, lightly sweet, with a nice finish. I’m a fan of Marzen, so I would have liked a bit more from the malt department, and maybe a sweeter finish, but it was still delicious. They obviously were going for something that you could drink by the liter, and Cerberus succeeded in that.

I have to say that although I’m generally just fine with drinking Hazy IPAs and other similar concoctions, they just aren’t my favorite.

This night, it seemed like everything else on the tap list was a Hazy IPA, or something that I’ve had a bunch of already. I want to say there were like 6 Hazy selections, but one of them might have been some sort of Milkshake offering. I just ended up getting two full pints and calling it a day. I’m sure everything was great, I just wasn’t feeling it that night.
