Roggenbier homebrew tasting and review

Our local homebrew club holds competitions on a fairly regular basis. Frequently, these are for fairly common styles, Irish Red, Trappist Single, etc. But the most recent one was for something a little different – 27: Historical – Roggenbier.

Mike and I brewed one up in anticipation of the competition, but when it came down to it, only he, I, and one other club member, John decided to try their hand at making this historical German rye beer. Well, rather than pressing on with the comp for only three entrants, we thought we’d make lemonade out of the proverbial lemons and do a Roggenbier episode and judge for ourselves how we did.

*Update 10/6/2021 – John’s recipe took Gold at the 2021 Rocky Mountain Homebrew Challenge. Congratulations John!
