Colorado Mountain Brewing April 2019 Visit

I had visited the Interquest location a previous time, but this week, we decided to hit the south location at the Roundhouse on 21st Street, right next to the ghost town museum. I have to say, it’s a really nice place! I loved the Edison Bulbs and the whole tree slice tables.

This week, our friend Scott was able to join us, so Jesse and I had a bit of good company. I think over all we were pretty impressed with the beers. Solid examples of the style that they were shooting for.

A couple of days after our visit, Jesse and I were talking about how we don’t think that Colorado Mountain probably gets the credit they deserve in the local brewery scene. Sure, they don’t have strange concoctions every week, and their flagship line is fairly unchanged, but really, they were good clean beers, that tasted very good, and when you order a particular style, that’s exactly what you get.

That being said, maybe that’s the fault I can find with Colorado Mountain. Rock Bottom is another local brew pub with amazing food, and good solid beer, and their flagships are fairly static, but they have a long list of seasonal beers, cask and barrel conditioned beers, and other special releases. It creates a fairly varied selection. That would probably be my only suggestion for Colorado Mountain Brewery. I know most weeks that we end up switching which brewery we’re going to at the last minute, it’s because we saw as special beer release on Facebook, and we’re just too intrigued to miss it. Maybe they should get in on some of that action.

UniBrau Hefeweizen – 5.6% – Really good. Significant Banana flavors, and hazy, it’s thick, golden, and delicious. I happen to be a big fan of a good Hefeweizen and this one hit the spot. Also, I love the logo for the beer, it’s a traditional looking German Beer server, but she has a uni brow.

7258 Blonde – 5.1% ABV – Named after the elevation of the Air Force Academy, this blonde had a bit of a Belgian twist to it. Really light and refreshing, made with Magnum and Czech Saaz hops, it finishes clean and crisp, and has a slight Belgian yeast character. Once it’s warmed up a bit I caught a hint of a grain or corn flavor at the finish. I really enjoyed this one, and it would have been especially good if it were hotter outside.

[Jesse]: Since Mike and I had the opportunity to compare notes over the weekend about this visit, it should be no surprise to anyone that I agree with his review.
The restaurant very comfortable and inviting and the beers are great, but they’re more-or-less limited to the flagships. As Mike said, they do have a list of “seasonal” beers and those are rotated monthly. I am curious if that’s the same list every year… I didn’t think to ask at the time. Speaking of the seasonal beers, I was excited to see that the seasonal beer for April was a Wit. Unfortunately, I was told the wit didn’t turn out and they replaced it with a Dunkleweizen and a smoked ale. I opted for the Dunkle.

Dunkleweizen – As with their other beers, this is a good specimen of a Dunkelweizen. Malty with the distinctive Belgian flavor at the finish. I didn’t see the stats for this beer, but it didn’t seem too boozy or alcoholic, so I think this would be a good beer to have a few of when relaxing.

Monumental Stout – 7.9% ABV 14 IBU – Again, a good representative of stouts. I quite enjoyed it. It seemed to be under-carbonated, but that’s a good thing for stouts. It finished with a nice coffee flavor.
