Irish Stout and Irish Red Tasting and Homebrew Recipes
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! In honor of this holiday, and with rarely seen (from us) good timing, we’re going to taste and talk about 2 different Irish Reds, 2 different Irish Stouts, and 1 Irish Extra Stout. That’s right, 5 different recipes for 3 styles all lumped into one episode! It’s like you’ve got the luck of the Irish or something.
We pulled in our friend Dave as our local Irish beer expert to talk about Irish beers in general and these styles in particular. Dave is a big fan of the Irish beer category and has brewed all of those styles repeatedly. A number of members of our homebrew club had a Irish Stout masterminds group, led by Dave, and these are some of the examples that came out of that meeting of the minds.
Long time viewers may remember that way back when, we had an Irish stout tasting and Dave was kind enough to give us a bottle of his homebrewed Irish Stout. As has happened to all of us, there was something wrong with it. Luckily, it turned out to be an issue with the bottle that he used, rather than the batch of beer, verified later with an additional off screen tasting. You can view that episode here: Irish Stout Tasting.
Without any further ado, here are the three recipes:

If that’s not enough Irish beer related content for you, here’s a link to Mike’s award winning Irish Red Recipe, Better Red than Dead. We did a review of that beer way back when, and you can find it here: Irish Red Recipe and Review.
