One thing that has not come up in the blog yet is the fact that Mike’s family and my family are both fans of the television show The Office (US version, of course). So, when we found out that a local food truck, The Hot Box, has a portion of their menu with items with an Office theme (tater tots with various toppings named, collectively, Scott’s Tots. If you’re a fan of the show – you get it), we had to give it a try. And, it just so happens that The Hot Box is at Nano 108 every Tuesday. So, long story short, we decided to take the families to Nano 108 to partake in some delicious food and beer.

[Mike] I’ve only had the one item from The Hot Box, but man oh man, I want to try them all. Jesse and I both had the “Threat Level: Midnight” selection from the “Scott’s Tots” side of the menu.

It was delicious! I ordered a large, which was almost enough to fill me up. Maybe not big enough to be a meal by itself, but it’s definitely a hearty snack.

[Jesse] I can’t help but agree that the Hot Box was awesome. I also had the Threat Level:Midnight. My problem is that I liked it so much, I might get the same thing the next time I order food from this truck and miss out on some of the other delicious sounding tots dishes (like the Kevin. Chili covered tots)

On to the beer… Normally, Mike and I make an effort to try different beer to offer up a variety of opinions on this site, but since this was more of a social visit, we decided to simply order what sounded good.

[Mike] – Coincidentally, when we visited Nano 108 in July – two of the beers that we wanted to try were out, and they just so happened to be available this time. What serendipity!

Strawberry Belgian Singel

Strawberry Belgian Singel – 4.87% ABV, 23 IBU – [Mike] This was a very tasty beer, it had the Belgian character that you would expect from a Belgian Single, but with a light berry flavor to it. Really tasty and refreshing. Both of the CoBrewTalk wives had it as well, and just kept ordering more and more. That translates as high praise from them. 🙂
[Jesse] To echo Mike’s comments, this was a really great beer. No too fruity and nicely balanced. My wife is not a beer drinker but she really enjoyed this one.

Scotch Ale With Cherries

Scotch Ale with Cherries – 10+% IBU – 26 IBU – [Jesse] I’m very happy that they weren’t out of this beer on this visit. It was pretty much exactly as I was expecting based on the name. A malty Sctoch Ale (duh) with a light, but very distinctive cherry finish. It was a bit boozy, but I felt that the ‘boozyness’ only enhanced the cherry flavor.

Zach’s 5×5 Red IPA – 6.5% ABV 57 IBU – [Jesse] This was a good red IPA. Not great, but good. The claim to fame for this beer is five malts and five hops to celebrate the brewers fifth anniversary at Nano. Maybe my palate is simply not sophisticated enough to appreciate this beer, but it seemed a bit muddled. But, I reiterate, it was a tasty beer.
