Sticky Paws

A cloudy, unfiltered wheat beer with a mild hop profile. It starts off light snd[sic] crisp and ends with sweet honey and citrus undertones.

Having never been to the brewery before, I wasn’t really sure of what I might order. Should I stick to my typical modus operandi and order an IPA and punt for the second beer? Do I try a style I don’t normally try?  Decisions, decisions.  After perusing the standard chalkboard menu, I noticed that the one IPA I thought sounded interesting had an IBU of 71 (Wow!  See my post on the Good Day IPA for info on that one) so I’ll play it safe and get the wheat beer.  I’m always looking for a good wheat. And lo, according to the board, the Stick Paws wheat seems to be a flagship beer (confirmed later by looking at the website) and it used as a base for many other beers. Let’s do that.

Well, this is not a typical wheat beer.  It wasn’t bad, per se, but it certainly wasn’t what I was expecting…  My palate might be off but I found this beer to be WAY more malty and hoppy than a typical wheat beer. I did definitely got the honey flavor, which was very nice, but the honey with the very noticeable presence of both malt and hops gave this beer an unusual flavor that I wound up deciding tasted like something burned during the beer-making process.  Oddly, it wasn’t an entirely unpleasant flavor (I did finish the glass), but not something I would seek out in the future.

ABV: 7.5%
IBU: 19
