Random Sampler #1

Even though we primarily focus on our brewery visits, especially here in Colorado Springs, we also tend to enjoy some beer when we’re “off the clock”. Jesse and I try to buy different things, and then trade each other, so that we can try more of a variety.

The plan here is to publish these random sampler posts periodically, so if you have some recommendations, or want to chime in on what you thought of something we tried, feel free to leave a comment at the bottom. (Note: Comments have to get approved before they are published. We’ll try to get them out there ASAP, but please be patient)

Buoyant - Rockyard

Buoyant – Boysenberry Blonde – Rockyard Brewing Company – 5% ABV – 20 IBU

This beer is really dangerous on two fronts, one, the cans seem to be a bit over carbonated, so you better be ready to get it into a glass when you open it, and do so over a sink. Secondly, it basically disappears from the glass. You pour it, and the next thing you know, it’s gone and you need another. It’s light, has a nice berry flavor that finishes stronger than it starts. Really thirst quenching, just watch how fast you’re going through them.

Trippel - New Belgium

Trippel – New Belgium – 8.5% ABV 43 IBU

You would expect that a brewing company named “New Belgium” would be able to crank out some tasty Belgian beers, well, they can. This Trippel is really great. It has great bitterness, it’s malty, and just right. I’m no expert when it comes to Trippels (yet), but this is what I expect them to taste like.

Epic Day - Eddyline

Epic Day – Double India Pale Ale – EddyLine Brewery

Lots of citrus and pine hop aroma and flavor. Moderate warming from the alcohol. In this day and age of hazy and New England IPAs, it’s nice to get back to a good old fashioned IPA, even if it’s a double.

Blind Pig - Russian River

Blind Pig – IPA – Russian River Brewing Company (Sata Rosa CA) – 6.1% ABV, 70 IBU

Speaking of good ol fashioned IPAs, this is a classic. I’ve had Pliny the elder a number of times now, and jumped on the chance to try Blind Pig. It’s a delicious IPA, citrus and pine flavors, the body is a little lighter than I expected for an IPA, but it’s still just a great beer.
