Pressure Fermented German Leichtbier Homebrew Recipe and Review
One advantage of being a Beer Judge (BJCP) is that at competitions you sometimes get to judge a category that you haven’t tried before, or aren’t very familiar with. Mike was assigned the German Lager category in one such competition, and that’s when he ran into his first examples of German Leichtbier. This is basically a low calorie beer developed by the Germans.

Mike was really happy with how his turned out and will be brewing it again soon. He entered it into the El Paso County Homebrew Competition, where it scored a 29, which isn’t terrific, but Mike was having some kegerator problems at the time, and it wasn’t very clear, and a bit low on carbonation. Some other feedback was that it wasn’t quite bitter enough, and could use some more hop flavor.
Don’t let the score dissuade you from brewing it though, this was a delicious beer, and it all but evaporated from the keg.
