We don’t do a whole lot of commercial beer reviews, but Mike picked up some big beers from the Dry Dock South brewery, and just had to share them. If you aren’t familiar with Dry Dock Brewing, they were spawned from the amazing homebrew store, The Brew Hut, which is still next to the South Dock location.
Not only is the brew hut an amazing store, but they also host the judging for a number of competitions in the area, along with their own annual competition, and serve as a drop off location for even more competitions. Including local competitions here in Colorado Springs.
The beers we’re trying today are:
- 26 – 16 – An Imperial Stout brewed in 2020 for the 25th anniversary of the Brew Hut, and the 15th Anniversary of Dry Dock brewing, then aged in Tawny Port, Oloroso, Pedro Ximinez, Leopold Bourbon, Heaven Hill Bourbon, and Four Roses Bourbon barrels. We assume it was blended afterwards. It’s 11.5%
- Pumpkin Spice Bligh’s Barleywine – Dry Dock’s standard barleywine with pumpkin spice, aged in a barrel, and weighing in at 13%.
I mentioned in the episode that Dry Dock had posted a number of their recipes on the website a long time ago. Here’s an Internet Archive Link to one of those Images. I didn’t see a recipe for Bligh’s Barleywine, but found this one online, which lists “Dry Dock” as the source. I can’t verify that it’s accurate, but looks like a good start.
