Jesse gives us a rundown of this neat counterpressure filler. We run through the concerns, assembly and operation, including a couple of gotchas you should be aware of if you’re interested in buying one.

I don’t know many that would disagree with the statement that filling bottles from the keg can be a huge pain. Beer guns, even homemade counterpressure fillers can make a heck of a mess and waste a whole lot of beer. Jesse did a bunch of research on what’s on the market, and decided upon the Boel iTap.

When Jesse made the purchase, it was about $70, but now it looks like it’s about $85.50 on Aliexpress (slow shipping), and about $150 on Morebeer.com and Amazon. Jesse was a little worried he wouldn’t be able to get it because it’s Russian made and there’s all those embargos going on.

The one concern is that it’s made primarily with plastic, so there’s some concerns that it may not hold up over time, but so far so good. There are a number of accessories for the iTap, different collars to fit different bottles, but Jesse realizes that the collar for the 12oz bottles only fits particular shaped bottles, we illustrate it in the video, but that’s not really a big deal since once you learn which bottles work, you know what to look for. Different collars seem to run about $20 – $30 each.

One other thing that Jesse thought was a bummer was that the shank which comes with it is too short to fit through the collar of his kegerator (Standard 2” pine), and although he can order a longer shank, he thinks they should have included the longer one as the default.
