Blood Orange IPA
A super-citrus I[n]dia Pale Ale brewed with Warrior, Azacca and Mosaic hops.
I am a big fan of IPA beers. It seems, fortunately for me, that IPAs are extremely popular these days (just look at most breweries beer menus) and all of the them seem like the brewers are in some sort of weird bitter (literally) arms race. Each one is hoppier than the last. It’s to the point were I can only drink one of them before my palate is overwhelmed. I almost always try an IPA when Mike and I meet for Thirsty Thursday and I usually reserve the IPA for my last beer just so I don’t blow out my palate first thing. Add a stated citrus element to it and just gets worse with the citrus and the hops competing for the attention of your taste buds.
HOWEVER…. This beer is not one of those IPAs. This beer broke the (my?) mold of a lot of the IPAs being brewed now of the aggressive hops and tart citrus flavors by being very mellow. Both of those flavors were certainly there, but they were less aggressive and provided and very well-balanced beer. Believe me, I kept waiting for the hops to build up on my palate but they never did, it just keep on with being a super pleasant beer from beginning to end. I could easily drink a few of these while grilling or playing a board game with the family.
