Manitou Brewing Company

It would be unsurprising to learn that some breweries open in a small tourist town in order to take advantage of their location to attract customers, Manitou Brewing Company is not one of those breweries.

They turn out great beer and food and let the quality of their products bring in the customers. Locals that make the trek to Manitou Springs and tourists that decide to take a rest from sightseeing in historic Manitou Springs are treated to some excellent beer, great food and friendly service. Their tap list was nicely rounded with a little of something for everyone; fruit beers, stouts, wheats, IPAs, and even some experimental stuff for the adventurous types. When we visited they had guest taps from Left Hand, Surly and Funkwerks as well.

Our cellar, pub, and brewery reside in what was formerly the Manitou Burro Line in the late 1800’s. Visitors would come to this very spot to rent a burro and ride to the top of Pikes Peak.

Of course, all traces of the burro barn are gone and have been replaced with a very cozy taproom that is both rustic and modern at the same time. Looking at the facade of the building, we were concerned that there would be little room to sit but the building is surprisingly deep and provides ample seating. They have a small patio for outdoor seating that seemed to be well shaded and would have been tempting had it not been raining when we visited.

I have to admit that I was very concerned about parking but it turned out that was a needless worry. There is a (pay) parking lot very near if you decide not to try to find street parking (which, of course, is also metered).
