JAKs brew pub is a great place to have a beer. The staff is pretty great, it has a good amount of seating, and a section that’s kind of off to the side if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main seating area. Dogs are welcome as well, and there’s also an outside area with a couple of gas fires.
[Update 10/2/19 – Mike] – We originally wrote this post about JAKs back in January 2019, and since then have had the opportunity to swing by JAKs quite a few times, sampling more of their beers each time. Jesse and I have discussed this a few times, most recently during out September 2019 Visit, and have to say that their beer has gotten pretty darn good. Although we weren’t impressed with their beer too much in the beginning, we want to give credit where credit is due. Kudos to the owners and brewers at JAKs! Keep up the good work!
Original opinion and text below:
I want to preface the next bit with some context. Colorado Springs and the surrounding area have some really great brewers, and it takes a lot to really stand out in this market.
That being said, I haven’t had many beers at JAKs that really stand out. If I were rating anything on a scale of 1 -10, I would have to give them solid 5’s. There’s nothing wrong with JAKs beer, it just that many of them aren’t, in my book, the cream of the crop.
If it were my neighborhood brew pub, I would stop by more often and be glad to drink their beers, but if someone wanted a list of my top 5 breweries here, JAKs wouldn’t be on the list.

I agree with Mike 100% on JAKs. I don’t know if I can say that JAKs is a standout among some of the truly amazing breweries we have in the area. In another market they could, I think, might easily dominate, however.
I’ve been there a few times and the beer that I’ve have had ranged from “NoThankYewVeryMuch” to very enjoyable, averaging out to “good” (this past visit really helped in that regard). I also agree that the service was top-notch. Very friendly and helpful folks. We happened to stop by on trivia night (Geek Who Drink) and the set up was actually very nice. The layout of the bar allow for a distinct separation of those playing trivia and those not. We were hoping to participate, but the “Trivia sections” filled up quickly, so get there early.
As Mike mentioned, if they were my local brewery, I’d probably frequent them more often…. Wait. They are my local brewery! I live well within walking distance. I think the missus and I will be dropping in a bit for a quick pint once in a while.
