Happy Accident or Horrible Mistake: No Chill Homebrewed American Wheat
You ever do something really wrong when brewing some beer? Maybe you missed some numbers or something? Well, we do that too, sometimes. Mike runs us through this American Wheat beer made up at Pikes Peak brewing during the big brew in 2022, and he lets Jesse decide if it’s a “Happy Accident”, or “Horrible Mistake”.
In this case the beer was made from wort that Pikes Peak made, and I don’t have a good recipe for it. It was about 60% 2 Row, and 40% malted Wheat (Red?). Mike kind of cleaned out his hop freezer, and added about 21 IBU with various hops at 60m, then 1oz of Cascade (7.2%) at 25m, and .5oz of Centennial in the no chill container. At least that’s what he thinks. The late hop additions were mixed up, and who knows what ended up where, they may actually have been reversed.
Please tell us about your “happy mistakes” Where have you made a mistake that either turned out a good beer, or made something terrible.
