Episode 23: Storybook Brewing – Kobalt Dreams Braggot and Angel Feather Brown Ale
This week we picked up another one of the beers brewed for the Feast of Saint Arnold Festival, Kobalt Dreams, an eis braggot. The “eis” portion of the syle name indicates that the finished beer was partially frozen, and then drained, leaving the frozen water behind. This is a method of concentration, not to be confused with distilling.
Since we were swinging by, we also grabbed a crowler of Angel Feather Brown Ale.
Kobalt Dreams Eis Braggot – 7.2% ABV
Angel Feather Brown Ale – 6.3% ABV
If you’re a fan of the style tastings, don’t worry, we’re getting back to those pretty quickly. Next week we’ll be having our Category 4A: Munich Helles Lager tasting.
We also dig deep into the Hamster Ball select-o-matic this episode, pulling not 1, not 2, but 4 categories out. What did we pull you ask?
- Category 3C: Czech Amber Lager
- Category 4C: Festbier
- Category 24B: Belgian Pale Ale
- Category 17B: Old Ale
We’re thinking of just going ahead and brewing 3C and 3D at the same time, and knock that category out. Then push Festbier off until September when it’ll be easier to find, and we’ll combine it with Marzen (Oktoberfest) at the same time.
The Hamster ball isn’t really cooperating with us lately, and it keeps giving us styles that we can’t seem to find. We decided that what we’re going to do is keep looking for styles we can find, and brew what we can, and if we run out of those, pick a category manually that we can find locally.
So stay tuned.
