Cream Ale Homebrew Recipe and Review (All Grain, BiaB, No Chill)

We’re back with another one of Jesse’s recipes, this one for a cream ale. This beer turned out great! The bitterness comes in to balance out the malt right near the end, but isn’t overdone, and you still get a nice hint of the grain’s sweetness. Many cream ales can be a little too thin, and too clean, but this beer has just the right amount of flavor.
You can find the recipe at the bottom of the post.

Jesse went with first wort hopping, which from what we’ve experienced really helps to round out the bitterness. We talk about that a little in our Elixir hop deep dive, and which was Mike’s entry into a SMaSH masterminds group, and everyone in the group who used first wort hopping had a much lower perceived bitterness.

If you want to view that episode, you can find it here.

Jesse also hints at an experiment where he made two batches of American Lager, one with grits in place of corn, and one with minute rice in place of rice. So keep an eye out for that one.
