Chocolate Oatmeal Stout ProAm Experience, Tasting and Review

At the first club meeting that Denny attended, he won a ProAm opportunity with Pete at Storybook Brewing. It always seems like first time members win something at our raffle, maybe not 100% of the time, but often enough that we’ve noticed.

In any case, Denny wanted to brew up an Oatmeal Chocolate Stout Pete had talked about with our club, and evidently the recipe was something Pete made, and it got him in trouble with his wife a long time ago because while enjoying the stout, he accidentally spilled some on the couch, staining it permanently.

Denny wanted to call the beer “couch stain” stout, but Pete was awesome enough to donate 20% of the proceeds from the beer to Sleep in Heavenly peace, so they went with another name. Not only is he a homebrewer, but Denny is also the chapter president for the local chapter of “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” here in Colorado Springs. It’s an easy charity to support, they build and donate beds to families with kids who have to sleep on the floor.

You can find Sleep in Heavenly Peace at https://Shpbeds.org – and donate time, money, or bedding there. The Colorado Springs chapter facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/SHPCOS and if you would like to donate there is a link there, or on their donation site at https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E345976&id=21&fbclid=IwAR1ethc7baqxs-y7VElFi7FK466nPO3LnsnudE8-yJ6NXYKNrkjDKpJqMi4

Denny mentions a Hot Toddie / brewer’s Toddie, it’s basically:
1oz Bourbon, Scotch, Brandy or Whiskey
4oz Hot Wort straight from the kettle
Add some Lemon

We’ve taken our sweet time getting around to this beer, Denny brewed in about a year ago, and then canned in March of 2022, and it’s been sitting in a crowler ever since. It held up really well. To be honest, we just plain forgot about it, and when Denny and Jerry were coming on for another couple of episodes, we remembered we had it.
