Bull and Bush March 2019 Visit
The COBrewTalk families went up to Denver last week to check out the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. the exhibit is pretty sweet, with many of his contraptions built in large displays, many of which you can operate yourself. The exhibit is there until the end of August, so there’s plenty of time to check it out.
After the exhibit, our crew was famished, and seeing how we don’t get up to Denver very often, we figured we should swing into a local brewery or brew pub. Thanks to the distance, in relation to the museum, and a good looking menu, we decided on Bull and Bush.
I went on and on about how much we liked the place on the Bull and Bush post, but in short, I would recommend that if you haven’t been there you should go.
My only complaint on this visit was that neither “Big Ben Brown Ale” or “The Tower ESB” was available on draft. I did get a bottle of Big Ben Brown Ale to go, you know how I like Brown Ales, but I haven’t tried it just yet.
Raspberry Babinka Lager – Until I started writing this post, I didn’t realize that a babinka is a rice cake made from rice flour, sugar, coconut milk, which is then wrapped in banana leaves. I was thinking along the lines of a berry of some sort. This was a pleasantly light beer, with raspberry in the nose and flavor. Slightly sweet, and pretty refreshing. I really did like it. My lovely wife said she could get a slight rice flavor, but I didn’t pick it up.
Kobee’s Irish Red – Exactly what you want from an Irish Red, nice and malty, pretty balanced, and just plain tasty. Lovely color and aroma.
Whitey Bulger Wit Bier – This had a bit more coriander in it than I’m used to, but it was still really good. Very nice color to it, almost fluorescent.
All Good Amber Ale – No surprises here, this was a very tasty amber, well balanced, leaning to the malty side of things. Amber in color and finished nice and clean. Not as hoppy as many American amber beers are. I would be happy to have a lifetime supply of this.

First off, I agree with Mike about everything above: 1) Go see the DaVinci exhibit before it’s gone and 2) Bull and Bush have great food. I got the “Bull’s Pride” (basically a French dip with green chilies). It was awesome.
Mike was on the ball and in full “review mode” when we went whereas I dropped the ball and only ordered one beer rather than getting a flight. I was only thinking “A beer sounds great right now!” and wasn’t thinking about writing anything up here. Oh well, I have something to look forward to when I return – and I will return.
I noticed that B&B had a few E.S.B.’s on the beer menu which I felt warranted some exploration. My rationale was that I could probably have a second beer with or after my meal. However, after I ordered, I realized that the ABV of the beer I ordered was 8.4% and I had to make it back to Colorado Springs. I decided that discretion is the better part of valor and decided against any more samples. But I think I made a good choice for my one beer.
I ordered the Tip Toucher E.S.B. (ABV 8.4%). I was assuming that an E.S.B. was going to be (essentially) a DIPA; basically just a super hoppy, bitter beer. I was very wrong. This was very smooth with a grapefruit flavor at the finish. Similar, in my opinion, to a very well balanced IPA. It was a very easy drinking beer. Certainly not “sessionable”, but certainly something I would like to have on hand to enjoy in the evenings. I loved it.
