Episode 8: Pikes Peak Barrel Series Review – Hot Sauce Beers!
When we saw the post about the Barrel Series on Pikes Peak Brewing Company’s Facebook Page I was immediately sold. Barrels that were used to age whiskey and red wine, then used to age hot sauce, after which they went to Pikes Peak where they are used to age a stout? Who can turn down the opportunity for such an adventure!
In this episode we review the two beers, “Hot Legs”, aged in a Red Wine / Hot Sauce barrel, “Ring of Fire”, aged in a Whiskey / Hot Sauce Barrel, and Summit House Oatmeal Stout, the base beer used for both.
Huge thanks to Pikes Peak Brewing and Chris for answering our questions about the beers.
Here’s what we asked:
Q: Is the entire series going to be stouts?
A: They will not all be stouts
Q: What Hot sauces were in the barrels originally?
A: That’s need to know.
Q: These two use Red Wine and Whisky Barrels, what other barrels are you planning on using?
A: Pikes Peak has wine, whiskey, and tequila barrels.
Q: Did the beer have any adjuncts, or is all the spice from the barrels?
A: no adjuncts.
Q: Is the base beer something that you normally carry, or was it a special recipe for this project?
A: The Base beer was Summit House Oatmeal Stout for both barrels.
